What Can You Let Go Of?

One of the great teachings of all wisdom traditions is the teaching of Surrendering to What Is and Letting Go.

There is a practice in the yoga tradition of waking up each morning and asking ourselves,

“What can I die to today?”

What does this mean?

It asks us, what can I release, what can I detach from, what can I let go of in my life, whether that be particular thoughts, certain behaviors, physical possessions, expectations in relationships, specific plans, grudges, sorrow, pity, anger, sadness, happiness, etc.

It asks us to question all of our thoughts, our beliefs, everything we think we know.

Why?

Because it is precisely our attachment to anything which takes us out of the true freedom and expansiveness of the spirit.

Can you imagine a world in which everyone happily allowed everyone else to be however they wanted to be without having a need or a desire to change them?

Practicing true acceptance and acknowledgement of the intelligence, the Divine, in every human being.

It’s a powerful idea.

Today, I want you to ask yourself the question: “What can I die to today?”

This might make it possible for you to simplify your life as never before, to let go, and be able to be fully present in the things that make your heart sing.

We’re just not taught to look inside, to trust our inner wisdom, to listen to that still, small voice inside that lights the way.

This is not an easy question, but one I believe is valuable to ask ourselves every single day.

And the catch is that once you hear an answer to that, you then must die to that thing, at least for this day, and preferably forever after.

This is not just an exercise to be done once in a while, but once a day. The avatars did it many times a day.

Practice detachment, freedom, true openness.

ASK YOURSELF, “WHAT CAN I DIE TO TODAY?”, AND POST BELOW THE ANSWER YOU CAME UP WITH. THEN SHARE HOW YOU WILL GO ABOUT DOING THAT, AS IT MAY TAKE TIME AND AN ONGOING COMMITMENT.
