Waiting Too Long To Go With The Flow?

Going with the Flow

Most of my life I have waited much too long to make the necessary changes that would have made my life better in a timely fashion.

Too long I’ve not heeded the following piece of wisdom from the Taoist philosophers.

There is a Chinese proverb – “Fish cannot see water, human beings cannot see Chi.”

Chi (energy/life force), is this big ocean we are swimming in, and the big ocean swimming inside of us. The ancient Taoist philosophers said that wisdom was following The Tao (The Way).

In other words, wisdom is watching the flow of energy in your life and honoring it. If I may venture an interpretation, that means to change with the changing circumstances.

I have so not honored the changes in my life in a timely manner. Honestly, I have just sucked at this.

No longer. Time is short. Time for change.

How often do we hold on to an idea of how we think things “should” be, or holding on to a pattern of behavior, or a commitment to something we have long outgrown, because it feels safe and familiar, and we all know it’s easier not to have to go through change, right?

Wrong.

Yes, change can be hard, and unfamiliar, and uncertain, but it can also hold new possibilities, new promise, new creativity, and new life for us.

And standing still, in the long run, can be a lot harder than change that would keep us fresh and alive and awake.

In Chinese Medicine, stagnation is the enemy. Stagnation of energy, blood, lymph, mucous, etc.

STAGNATION IS THE ENEMY!

And never truer than when we are aging.

I’m staring down this race with time in the second half of my life, and I have never been more aware how much I need to adapt, to keep moving, to keep adjusting, to keep trying new things, new approaches, and let go of so much that has worked and hasn’t worked for me in the past.

There’s an urgency inside that tells me I need to let go and run fast towards my fears, my uncertainty, and push myself way outside my comfort zone in order to keep growing.

Yes, going with the flow, and changing with the changing circumstances and the changing times is a practice, and one I need much more practice with, to make it my Modus Operandi.

Are you watching the way the energy is flowing in your life?

Comment below how you go with the flow!
