WHAT’S IN A WORD?

At the beginning of 2016 one of my mentors encouraged me to choose one word for the year, one word to guide me along the path, one word as a beacon to light the way.

True to form, I struggled with overcomplicating the task at hand and with my ever-present nemesis, indecision.

So, of course, I ended up with TWO words for the year: Simplicity and Action.

Making decisions is an interesting process, and for me, often riddled with confusion and excessive rumination.

I have struggled all of my life with making decisions, large and small.

Weighing the pros, weighing the cons, and often paralyzed into inaction as a result.

No longer.

This year I have taken charge, gotten clear in meditation, and I’m making decisions and taking actions in a timely manner. It has been life-changing.

And so I find myself coming back to one of the definitions of yoga: SKILL IN ACTION.

Did this just happen all of a sudden? Of course not. It has been a long, slow, and arduous process of seeing just how much life I have missed out on by hesitating, by playing it safe, by not making a conscious decision and making an unconscious decision of omission all the same.

So what have I learned? That making mistakes is a tremendous teacher, and that when my decision is made from a place of “What is the best thing for myself and everyone else in this moment?”, it is most often powerful and appropriate.

So I share a quote that speaks to me today: “I AM NOT A PRODUCT OF MY CIRCUMSTANCES, I AM A PRODUCT OF MY DECISIONS.” – STEPHEN COVEY

Thanks for listening!

I would love to hear about your decision making process – I’m always learning, so give me your best advice!!!!

And comment below what word you are choosing to light the way for you in 2017!!!!
